Golf pro Dave Kemshead welcomes you to the most picturesque golf course in eastern Canada. Since 1932 the golf course at White Point has challenged golfers of all levels from around the world. This spectacular 9-hole, Par 35, oceanside course was established shortly afterWhite Point Beach Resort opened, and continues to be an integral facility within our Oceanside Beach Resort Community. The course is a CPGA-rated nine hole course (6,200 yards from the blues, 5,860 from the whites and 5,438 from the reds).  Itis challenging for the avid golfer with small greens, narrow fairways and strong sea breezes. The recreational golfer will enjoy the quality of the course and the panoramic views that accompanies it.There are six par 4 holes (five for Ladies), two par three holes and one par 5 (two for Ladies). The CPGA rating is 67.0 and the slope rating is 115.

Only 7 miles away is the historic town of Liverpool. There are dozens of things to do and places to see in the seaside town of Liverpool. It is no surprise that many of these activities are intrinsically linked to the town’s rich cultural and historic past. Founded in 1759, Liverpool is known as the ‘Port of the Privateers’. The Privateers, during the American Revolution, were permitted to raid enemy ships from New England in the name of the crown. Today it is a great mixture of old and new, great shops and restaurants. For more cosmopolitan shopping, the town of Bridgewater, a 40 minute drive, features a large mall and name-brand restaurants.

Season of Operation

With the warmer temperatures here on the shores of the Atlantic, we enjoy a full season – golfing from early April until the end of October and likely into mid November. We’d be happy to keep you informed, email us at golf@whitepoint.com or during open season, call the Pro-Shop at 1-866-683-2485.

That %#@*&! Canadian Dollar! – Part II

So what is this doing to tourism down on the South Shore? Well, no one who has a business dependent on tourism is shooting up fireworks. The strong dollar has put a damper on room sales and real estate, that’s for sure.

But is it? To combat the absence of the American dollar White Point Beach Resort has increased its advertising in Canadian markets and, most notably, locally. Die hard Yankee dollar fans are beginning to see a silver lining in the rising dollar’s dark cloud in that the empty rooms once reserved for our American visitors are now being taken up by people from Nova Scotia and Canada.

In addition their Vacation Club, in conjunction with Resort Condominiums International, has brought a new type of clientèle, some of which have never appreciated the northern areas.

The inclusion of the Golf Course under the the White Point umbrella has also added benefits to the resort. Under the guidance of golf pro Dave Kemshead the 9-hole PGA course is one of the wonders of Nova Scotia sport whose vistas parallel Pebble beach.

So, dollar be damned. Take a vacation!

Less than an hour away from White Point Beach Resort and White Point Manor is Ross Farm Museum

Ross Farm Museum is located on 60 acres of the original 800 acre grant given to Captain Ross. Five generations of the Ross family have lived and worked on Ross Farm between 1816 and 1970, when the New Ross District Museum Society purchased the property. Even today many of the people who work at Ross Farm are descendants of early settlers in the area.

Explore the village school, cooper shop, 1830s vintage store and two barns that combine to create a bustling rural Nova Scotian farm set in the early 19th century. Watch as the costumed interpreters, many of whom are descendants of original settlers, spin wool, farm, bake and much more. Learn about the period animals including oxen, Canadian horses and Berkshire pigs that helped to sustain the community’s forefathers.

Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon/sleigh ride, depending on the season, around the 23-hectare site. Have a picnic on the shore of beautiful Lake Lawson. Bring home hand crafted wooden, coopered or blacksmithed items including spoons, barrels & tubs, hearth tools and more from our delightful gift shop.

Ross Farm Museum

Listen to the wondrous accounts of life “back in the day” and learn about the rich Nova Scotian heritage. Share in the pride of our land and celebrate life’s simple pleasures as you take in the scenes of natural beauty and explore all its facets.

History

In 1816, William Ross was asked by the Earl of Dalhousie, the Governor of Nova Scotia, to take 172 disbanded soldiers and their families to establish a settlement called Sherbrooke (now New Ross). All of these disbanded soldiers were given grants of land.

The goal of Ross Farm Museum is to give visitors an understanding of the importance of the land in our past and a sense of pride in Nova Scotia rural heritage.

Water Colors

Born in Windsor, Ontario in 1941, and educated at Mount Allison University, Roger Savage has made Queens County, Nova Scotia his home since 1973. Early in his career he discovered the need to work outdoors and so has traveled extensively in search of his subject – the light and shadow of Nature. On site he prefers to work in watercolour. Occasionally he will sketch in the field, returning to the studio to create prints in silk-screen and lithography.

Within Canada, his site work has included the oysters beds of P.E.I., the primordial granite forms of Cadden Bay, the rhododendrons at Annapolis Royal’s Historic Gardens and the icebergs of Ellesmere Island, N.W.T. Within the Maritimes his work is included in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia(Halifax), Confederation Centre Art Gallery(Charlottetown), and the Owens Art Gallery(Sackville).

His artwork has also been reproduced on poetry book covers and on two $100 commemorative gold coins (1978, 1981).The artist has lectured and given painting seminars to adults as well as delighted hundreds of children while teaching them the basis of screenprinting. His striking images of the seashore of his home province, translated into postcard miniatures, have brought Nova Scotia to thousands of people.
