Scott Walking Tours, nova scotiaIn 2007, Scott Walking Tours celebrated its 15th Anniversary. And along for the ride, er walk, were many of their the diehard clients who continue to hike with them each year. IOne guests was on her 15th trip with the hiking tours.

Scott Walking Tour offers memorable vacation experiences designed for travelers who want to see the world in a different way. And that is the old fashion way – on foot. These unique journeys combine a sense of exploration and adventure combines with the finest of comforts. Because at the end of each day you’ll rest at charming, cozy inns and enjoy excellent cuisine as you share stories from the day among friends.

Angela Chisholm, the president and owner of the company, is passionate about nature and dedicated to environmental preservation. Her bond with nature is an extension of Wendy Scott, the founder of the great company, and those ideals are reflected in everything they do. For example, “no-trace hiking” is always practiced and all of their journeys are designed and carried out with scrupulous attention to conserving resources and protecting the environment of the places they visit.

If you keep track of their calendar you’ll see that the walking tours extend far beyond Nova Scotia. This year takes the name to Tasmania, Iceland, snowshoeing in Quebec, walking through the Rockies and a great hike in the Yukon.

So grab your walking stick!

An organized trail movement in Nova Scotia began in April 1987 when over 80 people representing trail users and providers gathered for a three day Trails for Tomorrow Conference in Halifax. It was organized by Colin Stewart who had a vision for trail development in the province. Hosted by Nordic Ski Nova Scotia, the Halifax Field Naturalists and the Canadian Hostelling Association, the conference brought together outdoors people from government, landowners, trail providers and user groups. The resulting Trails Task Force established the Nova Scotia Trails Federation.

The Nova Scotia Trails Federation began as an entirely volunteer effort with support provided by the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission. It includes groups from diverse areas such as snowmobilers, Nordic skiers and motorcyclists

The Nova Scotia Trails Federation is the provincial wing of the Trans Canada Trail Committee formed in the summer of 1993. There is a two-phase approach:

  • Phase One: the routing between North Sydney and the New Brunswick border with the Tatamagouche-Halifax connection.
  • Phase Two: Halifax down around the South Shore/Annapolis Valley loop connecting with Phase One at Truro.

Former railways, abandoned roads and newly-created trails are growing into a network of trails to work and play and enable us to experience treasures such as historical points of interest, ecologically unique areas, and scenic vistas while providing opportunities for active living and sharing quality time with family and friends.

All of Nova Scotia salutes these foresighted outdoors people and we all look forward to a continued common heritage enjoying Nova Scotia’s natural beauty.

Kejimkujik’s Seaside Adjunct is situated in Port Joli at the end of the St. Catherine’s River Road (approximately a fifteen minute drive from White Point Beach Resort). This beautiful park is best experienced by taking one of two trails.

The Awesome Trails

One of the two trails, the shorter one, is a leisurely walk with basic walking shoes. Its length makes it popular with children and older ones who cannot walk too far but want to experience a grand trip complete. There are plenty of sightseeing rocks, twist and turns which make it fun for kids. There is also the added attraction of wildlife, beautiful wild flowers, berries, and many rare species of plant life. At the trail’s end is a panoramic view of ocean, pounding waves, basking seals and a white sandy beach that stretches for miles.

Proper hiking boots or good running shoes should be worn when taking the longer of the two trails. This path crosses over rocky beaches, traverses narrow bush paths and includes all of the shorter trip plus large meadows and boardwalks
Trail Fees

There is now a nominal fee, during the regular season, to enter the park with a reasonable “family rate” ($7.50) being offered. Unfortunately, no bikes permitted on the trail.
