Before I reveal what I found on MusicBrainz.org I would like to explain how much I’ve paid for music.
1964: Beatles 45 All My Loving - $.99
1965: Beatles LP Beatlemania (with All My Loving) - $5.49
1971: Beatles Greatest Hits - 8 Track : (with All My Loving) - $9.99
1978: Beatles Greatest Hits - Cassette: (with All My loving) - $7.99
2003: The Beatles: One - CD (with All My Loving) - $14.99
So much for my discography and guess what? All the money went to either Sir Lew Grade (a crook) who had the rights to the pre-Apple Beatles and, now, Michael Jackson. Why? Because Jacko was rich enough to get the rights to keep ripping everyone off.
So this is my plug for downloading. How many times do we have to pay for something? It’s like buying the same lamp 5 or 6 times.
Oh, I agree we should buy CD’s from the new guys but every time some record company decides to put out yet another mix of something you already paid for I think you should just grab it. Because in the ’80’s and ’90’s the record companies opened their vaults and began cranking out CD’s of 1960’s and 1970’s LP’s they already made bazillions on. And so they charge $21.00 for a Fleetwood Mac Rumors CD from 1977.
So, go for it. Just give the new guys a break and support them. Bugger the record companies and fat publishing houses.
